Lucy said, “how did we get to this stage?”, as she lifted the needle from the record I played. “I’m not keen on this album, I’ve heard it before. I used to quite like it, but not anymore”.
“I want to be free” she said, “don’t be deceived. I’ve made my mistakes, but if I make mistakes then I’ll leave this place. “We all make mistakes but from my mistakes I have grown” she cried. Well, we all make mistakes but at least my mistakes are my own.
In the foreground us two on a sofa in silence, in the background TV shows destruction &
violence. It makes me feel sad that we live in a world, where I see images of war and feel
nothing at all.
That’s when Lucy said “what will you try to do now?” as she stared at the tea that i’d made
her an hour ago and was sitting untouched growing cold, a little like me, I thought as I said “I don’t know”.
Retreat at the first sight of war.
The battle lines are now all drawn and nobody here’s keeping score
That’s when Lucy said... “I like to read books in the dead of the night, under blankets by only torchlight. Reminds me of when the world was a mystery and we were still happy”.
Lucy said “how did we get to this stage”.
Later that night we’d kiss and say goodbye, but before then we’d fight until the end.
